So I have heard of Holy Grail and Phoenix.
Do they regularly put on metal?
Is there any place that does friday night metal or any regular weekly thing?

There's nothing regular around. It's hard to find a venue that will cater to metal exclusively without some sort of guarantee that people will show up. I've only seen a couple of gigs at Holy Grail, they weren't very big. Seemed as though metalheads didn't like it much. Though you'll catch a heap of them there for Chrome! Where's the Phoenix? Never been there. Do they put on gigs? Usually metal gigs are at the ANU Bar, near civic and the Basement in Belconnen. Last year there was a heavy dj night thing on at Bar 32 in civic, I never made it as they were always on thursdays, but I think they went ok.

No idea where the Poenix is, read about on the MitACT forum. (Forum is just as dead as this one)
Yeah, probably not a whole lot of people would attend regularly for metal shows, and there really wouldn't be that many punters showing up either for a regular kind of show to happen.
Shame though.

If metal gigs continue to do well, then someone is bound to see the potential for a metal bar.
I don't think I could manage to go out to a metal gig every weekend though, I certainly couldn't manage organising a gig for every weekend, what with work, and all those other bullshit things that get in the way of a good time.
I'd rather have a few good gigs a year than 40 mediocre ones... Especially now that so many international bands are touring Australia.

Yeah a once a month thing would be great, you could get bands from QLD, WA and all that to ensure a good enough line-up for some punters to show up, and it would be few and far enough between to hold down some regulars.
I myself would do it, however I am a barely employed 19 year old with no money and no connections or ability to get this idea off the ground.

The phoenix is very small pub that would struggle to have regular gigs. It would be great to organise a regular show somewhere, i did consider it but i wasn't in a situation to manage it. If something regular was managed i think there would be a greater opportunity to organise more interstate bands, build a regular turn out to shows and hopefully should only grow. Would make it even more worth while to try and involve all local businesses, distros, promoters, so we could have stalls and more at the shows as well. It worked well for Wagga

the phoenix has regular shows but there not metal, more mellower stuff. the place is tiny, the stage can really only get drums on it.

What sort of mellower stuff? Like Jazz and what not or like soft rock?

The Pheonix has had 1 metal show at it. My band (Forgery), Reign of Terror and Taliesin played there and we were the first metal bands to ever play there.
Was a great gig. Not too many metalheads but still a decent amount of people I guess.
The stage is very small but, drums, amps etc and of course the bands still managed to fit on it ok. Although it was pretty cramped behind the drum kit.
Like I said before though it was still a great gig.
