Anyone around here read books?
Currently reading Cries unheard by Gitta Sereny. About Mary Bell, a little kid who killed some little kids back in the 60's.
I thought to start this because I just gave a friend my 2nd copy of The Blood Countess by Andrei Codrescu, about Elizabeth Bathory, which I really enjoyed reading (twice and will probably read again). It's pretty gruesome. If you're into that sort of thing, I recommend it!

Well today i decided i needed some light reading for my lengthy flights and airport waits over the next few months so i finally picked up "War and Peace" by Leo Tolstoy which i have been meaning to read for some time.

I never really got into sci fi, I'm more into non-fiction but I did read 'The Dreamthiefs Daughter' by Michael Moorcock and really enjoyed it (that's fantasy). Looked up the series and it's massive, so I'm not really in a hurry to start reading them, it'll take me ages. The only book I ever started and didn't finish was Intencity by Dean Koontz.. hate that book. I just couldn't get into it. I have a pile of about 8 books to get through currently.

yeh those big 100 book series things blow.. prefer short stories and novella type things.. i tried to read wheel of time once upon a time but god that was awful... also our book shop sells some real oddball stuff.. nothing too popular and not much of huge interest to me

I love Julian May, his books are without a doubt the best i've ever read. Love all his work.

maybe start with reaper man or soul music and see if you like pratchets style with those.
my fave authors are j.g. ballard and frank herbert (his none Dune books like the green brain and Dosadi stuff).
