Hey all, I'm still fairly new to Canberra, and am musically frustrated. I've done nothing since I've been in Canberra in terms of playing live, and I want to join a band or start a project, I don't care what style it is. I play guitar, have been playing for a long time, used to play in a band called 'May' back in Wollongong which was kind of dillinger/meshuggah tech metal kind of stuff. I listen to almost anything, and just want to play some music, and find out more about the local scene . If you're keen, or know anybody who might be looking for a guitarist, let me know

I missed seeing you on the May tour... wanted to go, but you didn't come down here...
As far as local scene goes, it's fairly small. Most metal shows either occur in Civic at the ANU bar or at the Basement out at Belconnen.
If you want to start a project, i'm (at least i like to think i am) a fairly competent vocalist. Mostly do low growls and black metal vocals. Still working on trying to get some screamoish style going but having minimal success training my vocals.

Sounds like a good start, vocals are normally tough to find. I've been doing a whole lot of minimal stuff lately since I've had no access to drums and what not. When i say minimal stuff, i mean Sunn 0))) drones, with Ulver kind of soundscapes over the top. I can also do clean vocals ok (in my opinion ) I'm keen to give anything a go. I'm probably going to be at the psycroptic show, could talk more then if you're going?

Welcome to the board.
You can ask about putting up a note at Raven on their notice board too!

Raven is a "gothic/alternative" clothing store in Civic. They help alot with gig promotion.

That's probably it.. Though it's hard to tell, little emo kids are everywhere in civic. Sometimes I hang out the front the Raven... I'm not an emo kid.

Come to Psycroptic, you won't see any cut marks on Karen. She's too individual for that. She uses rubbers to give 2nd degree burns to her legs, cause she's an unique. ... on topic though, most 'alternative' stores have emo kids hanging out the front. So yes, it probably is Raven.
