Bear in mind that in 95% of cases, it's just not worthwhile (from a business perspective) for a licenced venue to hold all ages gigs. Partly due to the fact that there's usually little to no profit to be made, and partly due to the unbelieveable amount of bullshit they have to go through just to do it. Here's three examples: - Liquor Licencing MUST be informed of the show, therefore almost guaranteeing a raid at some point during proceedings. - The venue is legally required to provide licenced security for the event. I can't remember the exact figure but i think it's something like 1 bouncer to every 20 patrons or something. - Being that it's almost impossible to really effectively police not just who is buying drinks, but who they are buying them for, the only real way for a venue to safely cover it's arse is to sell nothing but soft drinks - so there goes 90% of your over 18's crowd. So unless the show is guaranteed to pull at least 2-300 VEEERY thirsty cola slurping kiddies, the pub won't even make enough $$$ to cover staff wages, let alone anything else...
Then, take into account the cost af hiring enough security to cover a crowd that size....
And remember those bastards from Liqour Licencing? Even if the don't find at least one or two underage pissed cunts (which they almost certainly would), they'd almost definately shut the place down and slap it with a huge fine for overcrowding, regardless of the fact that the pub needs that many people in it coz all the people are buying is softdrinks...
It's a viscious cycle and pretty easy to see why a venue owner couldn't arsed with the hassle
It's sucks, but there you go.....

I dunno, bars make the most profit from non-alcoholic drinks.
If you ID people on the door, and then tag them if they can't provide ID to prove they're 18 with a wristband. It's what happens over here.

I think it's more the point that you can be 18+ buy a rum and coke in a glass/cup and then give it to an under 18 and it will just look like they are drinking coke. So how do you stop that from happening?

Kids may buy a coke or two, sure it's a good margin but someone spending $50+ on beer is still better. In the ACT at least it is not legal for a minor to be in a licensed venue without a responsible adult. Technically there are no "all-ages" gigs, there are under 18's and over 18's. If a venue can completely separate them yet they can both see the same stage they may get away with it. None of the bars I've done gigs in have ever made money from an under 18's gig. I dunno, bars make the most profit from non-alcoholic drinks. If you ID people on the door, and then tag them if they can't provide ID to prove they're 18 with a wristband. I never thought that deeply into it, we just always used to have them in Tassie. Oh well, life sucks. Guess I can wait a few years...

So how do you stop that from happening? You have to rely on your regulars who do drink not to act irresponsibly. If an underager is caught consuming alcohol on licensed premise, over here it's a 5k (pounds, not your crazy dollars) fine. And as we all know, word and rumour spreads fast as to who the perpetrator is, as well as their marked absence from all gigs at that venue from now on. Kurt; sorry I'll rephrase that. In terms of buying and sell pricing, the markup is around 500% on soft drinks as opposed to about 2-300% on alcoholic beverages. At least, that's UK figures.

Well I remember all the old woden youth center aa gigs back in the day had some awesome times. We also we used to organize shows at civic, woden and tuggeranong youth centers also the jamo pub. but no one turns up you cannot advertise in the schools. the youth centers still put on aa shows you can book them but there are rules none of your band members can drink before they play they get breathalyzed before playing. second rule is that you have to have an underage band play on your bill and we all know how reliable and responsible 16 year old kids are.
