I watched Tortured and went home sick as well. (What the fuck was with $30 shirts... not a fucking chance mate)
Picked up the Templestowe album. Fairly blazè(sp?) unfortunately.

Unless your mum dresses you at K-Mart when the end of season sales are on, that's about what band t-shirts cost. The album sounds very much like a good representation of the band to me. Great lighting too, sure Greg will miss it if you leave it behind? Well done kids. I watched Tortured and went home sick as well. No idea what Templestowe paid for their shirts but if we sold ours for $20 we'd make $1.50 over what we paid. Hardly seems worth it does it? If you got into a band to make money then clearly there is something wrong. (Mostly the fact that you expected to make money)

So, musicians should all lose money 'coz you're too fucking tight to pay market rates? We'll sell all our stuff at a loss just for you, every gig will be free. I can point you to some torrent sites where you can download our album... Actually, would you like anything from my house, come over, take some shit... I think Duncan has too many drums, take some of those too. I know Nafe has more guitars than he needs.... I think there is a world of difference between being in a band to make money (Yep, I'll start a doom band, sure to make millions)and not wanting it to be a financial drain. If you got into a band to make money then clearly there is something wrong. (Mostly the fact that you expected to make money)

Having said that, it'd interesting to the difference in this dudes attitude if he was actually in a band..... Anyways, back on topic, congrats to the Templestowe lads!!

@ Kurt. I never said ANYTHING about running things at a loss. As you said at $20 your profit margin is only $1.50. This suggests to me that it is NOT a loss. So you are still making a 7.5% profit margin. Which when all is said and done isn't too bad. Not great. But not god awful. Compared to charging $30 and making a $11.50 profit margin. Which is a $38.33% profit. The rate at which you are paid for the gig (should) cover any cost incurred as for travel + any revenue made from merch at the gig. I'm in no way suggesting that the band should run at a loss, but running things with such a high profit margin really just fucks the buyers. Save your breath Kurt, you can't teach anything to someone who already knows everything.... I have never professed to know anything let alone everything. But wouldn't logically, most things come at a cost (at least initially). Logically, whilst band shirts are there to provide revenue to the band, it also plays just as big a role as a promotional tool. Charging $30 a shirt, whilst undoubtedly increasing revenue, would lower the rate at which people will buy the shirt, because they don't want to pay that much. Thus lowering it's effectiveness as a promotional tool. My 2c.

Does anyone have anything to say about the actual gig? lol..
So far the highlight seems to be the lighting..
Shirts with intricate designs, multi-colours and high quality printing are expensive... Consider this when looking at the sale price. Having said that, I know heaps of people who won't pay more than $20 for a local / Aussie band shirt at a gig regardless of the quality, cost etc. They don't care for your reasons, they just won't buy your shirt.
